Political Science Club

The Political Science Club of D.M.S.M’s Bhaurao Kakatkar College was inaugurated on 24 December 2014 under the aegis of the Department of Political Science. The PSC has been established for the express purpose of promoting Political Science as a subject of study. The Constitution of the club enumerates the following aims and objectives.

  1. To seek an understanding of contemporary political issues.
  2. To provide a common platform to the students interested in political science.
  3. To generate interest and awareness regarding the discipline of political science.
  4. To provide guidance to students in planning careers in public life and other fields.
  5. To create awareness about democratic and political processes through various means.

Activities Report: 2016-17

Like every year the Political Science Club began its activities for the academy year 2016-17 with the usual Inaugural lecture and Induction ceremony. The Induction ceremony was held on 9th August 2016 to mark the ‘August Kranti Din’. Prof Anand Mense delivered the Inaugural lecture on ‘Bhagat Singh and Today’s youth.’ President of the function Shri Subhash Oulkar inducted the Executive Council for the year 2016-17. In the month of September the club organised an interaction with the super senior members of the club. The club also celebrated Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary on 25th September 2016. With the backdrop of the 2016 American Presidential Elections in mind the club organized a special lecture on “America Presidential Elections 2016’ by Shri Anil Ajgonkar. The special lecture was held on 3rd November 2016 just a few days before the American elections with the intention of educating the general public and the students regarding the process and implications of American presidential elections. In November the member of PSC were invited to present Nukkad Natak on Road Safety at Bennali village and at Rotary Club of Belgaum’s gala event. On 23rd January 2017 the PSC observed the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose. On this occasion members discussed various aspects of Bose’s life and his contribution to the Indian freedom struggle. In the month of February the club organized a presentation competition on ‘My Hero’ which was judged by Prof. M. M. Patil. On 11th February 2017 the members of the club accompanied by Faculty Advisor Bhakti Desai went on a study tour to Gol Gumbaz and Kudalsangam. The study tour helped the members explore the historic places and study their socio-political and cultural relevance. On 20th February 2017 PSC in association with College of Business Administration organized “Shiv Mohostav 2017’.The event was organized to mark the birth anniversary of Chatrapati Shivaji. The PSC closed its annual activities in the month of April with a Closing Ceremony where the junior members bid farewell to the outgoing seniors.

Activities Report: 2017-18

The Political Science Club began its activities for the academic year 2017-18. With an Inaugural Lecture on “Youth and Politics by Shri. B. G. Patil (Principal S.S.T.P Arts & Science College, Sankeshwar) Shri. B. G Patil together with the President of the programme Dr. D. N. Misale, inducted the council members of PSC students council 2017-18 and administered the oath of the club to the new members.

Next in line of activities was the welcome party 2017-18 organised by the seniors for the freshers. This programme is held every year to foster friendly interactions and relations between seniors and junior students. Miss. Bhakti Naik was voted as ‘Miss Fresher 2017-18’ and Mr. Pawan Mardi was voted as ‘Mr. Fresher 2017-18.’

On 18th Sept. 2017 PSC organised “Movie Day” for its members whrerin the movie “The Ghazi Attack.” The movie securing was followed by Group discussion on the movie.

The PSC organised an Inter Collegiate Quiz Competition on 17th Oct. 2017 in association and as per the directions of the National Commission for women. About to students from various colleges participated in the competition. The prizes were sponsored by NCW.

The Quiz Competition was followed by a special lecture on “Women’s Rights in India.” by Dr. Sushma Narasgouda on 18th Oct. 2017. The programme was presided by Dr. D. N. Misale.

The members of PSC undertook a one day study tour to Badami, Aihole and Pattadkal. The students were accompanied by Prof. Mallikarjun Shegunshi of the Dept. Of Political Science.

The PSC in association celebrated ‘Shiv Mahotsav 2018’ on 17th and 19th February 2018. elocution, painting, fancy dress and singing competitions themed on the life of Shivaji Maharaj were held on 17th Feb 2018. The prize distribution of the competitions and a special lecture on the life of Shivaji Maharaj by Shri Anand Mense was held on 19th Feb 2018.

The PSC observed Marty’s Day on 23rd March 2018 by paying respects to shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. Dr. Meena Mohite garlanded the photo of Bhagat Singh and spoke to the students about the contribution of Bhagat Singh to India’s freedom struggle

Activities Report: 2018-19

  1. Welcome & Induction program – July 2018 :
    Every year the club begins its activity with welcome and Induction program. As per tradition of the club the seniors organise a welcome for the freshers. Principal Dr S.N Patil who is the ex-officio patron of the club inducted the freshers into the club and appointed the PSC Council for the year 2018-19. This was followed by ice-breakers, fun and frolic and introduction sessions. The activity helps build a better camaraderie between seniors and juniors. Mr Satish Chavan was voted Mr PSC Fresher and Miss Nisha Kanade was voted Miss PSC fresher.
  2. Interaction with IAS Nikhil Nippanikar – August 2018:
    The club organised a special lecture and interaction with Nikhil Nippanikar for the students. Nikhil a young IAS from the city motivated the students to think of civil services as a career option. The interaction session inspired the students to plan their careers.
  3. Movie Day – September – february :
    Movie day is a regular activity of the club. Every academic year Psc organises screening of atleast 2 movies in the socio-political genre. This year the Movies ‘Parmanu” & Jabbar Patel’s Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar were Showcased. The screening is followed by reviews and critical analysis of the movie.
  4. Interaction with ICFS officer Sourabh Deshmukh – december ‘18:
    ICFS Sourabh Deshmukh presented a lecture on “Career prospects after graduation”. He also guided the students regarding right approach to competitive exams. The lecture was followed by an interaction session.Principal Dr S.N Patil presided the program.
  5. Career Opportunities through competitive exams – Dr Sachin Bari – January 2019:
    The club organised a special lecture on “ Career opportunities through competitive exams. Dr Bari from Pune who runs a youtube channel on career guidance and has also appeared on Tv Channels like SAAM for career guidance sessions was the resource person. Dr bari’s talk was followed by interaction segment.
  6. Shiv – Mohotsav February 2019:
    The club organises Shiv –Mohotsav every year to celebrate the birth anniversary of King Shivaji. The rationale is to enlighten the students regarding the true character and spirit behind this great king. The occasion is commomerated with various competitions sucha as Powada, speech, fancy dress in english, hindi, kannada and marathi languages.
  7. Study tour – February 2019:
    A group of 30 students accompanied by Prof Bhakti Desai, Alumni Shubham Chavan and Asawari Patil visited Bijapur and Almatti Dam as a part of the study tour. The students visited Gol Gumbaz, Ibrahim Rouza etc.
  8. National Human Rights Commision sponsored “One Day Training program on Human Rights” – March 2019:
    The Political Science club organised a One day Training Program on Human Rights. The program was conducted in association with NHRC ,New Delhi. About 150 students participated in the program. Shri Dileep Kamath, Adv Neeta Potdar, Adv Sarita Patil, Prof Swatee Jog, Dr S. H Patil were resource persons. Adv Rajabhau Patil, Shri Subhash Oulkar, Shri Vikram Patil, Principal Dr S.N.Patil were present througout the program.
  9. Miscellaneous:
    Besides these activities the club also organised several other activities like observation of Marty’s day, group discussions, debates, watching of documentaries on great political thinkers like Karl Marx, Kautilya, Basaveshwar, Ram Manohar Lohia etc.and screening of mini series Samvidhaan.
