DAKSHIN MAHARASHTRA SHIKSHAN MANDAL,  an educational society was started in the year 1965 by a group of enthusiastic social workers of belgaum and its surrounding rural areas under the leadership of Late Bhai Dajiba Desai with the blessings of  Late Shri Yashwantrao Chavan, the then Defence Minister Government Of India. It has moduled itself on the teaching of Mahatma Jotiba Phule , an eminent revolutionary social reformer of maharashtra .

Since its inception the Mandal and its institutions are catering to the educational, social and cultural need of the downtrodden and rural people, particularly of the Marathi speaking students of belgaum and its surrounding rural and backword areas of Khanapur,Chikkodi,Hukkeri, Chandagad ,Ajara And Gadhinglaj talukas from Maharashtra-karntak border.

Under the visionary leadership of Late Bhai Dr. N D Patil , the institution flourished. Today under the transformative leadership of Smt. Saroj  N Patil , an educationist and an ardent follower of Mahatma Jotiba Phule and of other social reformes of maharasthra, dakshin maharsthra shikshan mandal is running many educational institutions. In the year 2015 mandal has completed its golden jubilee year.

In our efforts to reach the hitherto untouched population, especially the women, the mandal has started 34 high schools and 5 P. U. Colleges in the far flung villages of belgaum. The mandal is also running BBA and BCA and PG courses in commerce and chemistry in the same campus.
