Department of Biotechnology conducted a study visit to Dr. Prabhakar Kore Basic Science Research Center (BSRC) on 28th August 2021 for B.Sc final year students. Students observed the various sections of the research center which comprised of Microbiology laboratory, Biophysics laboratory, Cell culture laboratory, Sterilization room, Chromatography equipment, and various other instruments used in Biotechnology. The staff at BSRC briefed the students about the research center. They were 20 students guided by Prof. Amruta Sane and Prof. Madhuri Hindalgekar.

Principal of the college Dr. S.N Patil Sir Welcome to the August gathering, Introduction to resources was done by Prof. M.S Patil. A vote of thanks was delivered by IQAC Head Prof. B.I. Vasulkar, MOC was handled by Prof. Amit Subramanyam Coordinator Jyoti Career Academy. Overall, the session focused on students’ challenges while deciding on their careers. This focused on how one can better opt for the desired option considering the current industrial scenario, followed by the time management and attitude needed to succeed. Department of Botany, Alumni Association, and IQAC organized One day National Level Webinar titled *” Plant Tissue Culture – A Tool For Biodiversity Conservation” on 15th June 2021, Tuesday at Time: 2:30 pm. The Resource Person Dr. Smita S. Shinde Guest Faculty, Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology Karnataka University, Dharwad delivered the talk on an Online Platform (Google Meet). She explained the Tissue Culture techniques involved in the development of plants on large scale. Everywhere we observe the loss of Biodiversity due to the exploitation of natural resources. In this darkness, this is the ray of hope. Biodiversity can be saved through these techniques. Dr. Mrs. N. A. Jadhav, Head of the Department of Botany welcomed all participants and introduced the Resource Person to the audience. On behalf of the miscellany department Essay Writing Competition was organized on 11.02.2021 in Hall No. 08. From 10.30 to 12.00 noon. The students were free to write in any one of the four languages i.e. English, Hindi, Marathi & Kannada. The students were free to express their opinions on the given topics. Five topics in each language on current issues were given. 118 students from Arts, Commerce & Science participated. The best three essays in all the languages were awarded cash prizes.

The orientation program for the newly admitted undergraduate Students of B.sc was organized on 8th October 2020 at 10:00am. The students were formally welcomed and a brief description of the institution and B.Sc Course was given by Prof. Dr. A.S.Kulkarni and Prof. B.I.Vasulkar. Faculties from all the Departments introduced themselves to the students. Prof. V.N.Jadhav briefly explained about the online classes and College Website. Principal Dr. S.N. Patil addressed the gathering and Guided the students. Finally the program concluded by a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. A.A.Sane who was also the MOC. Students were present in good numbers which made the program a very resounding success.

During First Days Session Prof. R S Huddar demonstrated hands on traning on Google Meet, Zoom & Youtube channels for Commerce Faculty members. During Second Days session Prof. S. A Bamane gave Training on Video Recording, Audio Recording for Arts Faculty. Third Days session wer conducted by prof Vidhya jadhav to B. Sc faculty on youtube, google meet, audio recording video recording , power point presentations etc.

The webinar was inaugurated by Principal Dr. S.N. Patil with a welcome speech. In his welcome address he spoke about the progress of the institution. Ms. Vaishali Pandit Shinde, Librarian Department of Library introduced the resource person – Dr. H. G. Hosmani.Ph.D. Scientist D (L.S.) Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Center An IUC of University Grants Commission infocity , Gandhinagar , Gujarat. He talked on various INFLIBNET Activities and Service like NLIST-e resources, eshodh Sindhu, Shodhganga, Shodh Shuddhi, IRINS , Vidya- Mitra, Vidwan , and e- PG pathashala for an hour and it was very informative and useful to the Faculty members, Library students, Research scholar Librarians and all library professionals. All the active participants during the webinar received a certificate through feedback link. The webinar ended by a proposing vote of thanks by Dr A S Kulkarni.

Department of Zoology and IQAC have organised a webinar on “Snake diversity in Karnataka” on Friday 28th August 2020 at 11:00 am in Computer Laboratory. The webinar was inaugurated by Principal Dr. S.N. Patil with a welcome speech. Miss. Nivedita thabbe, introduced the resource person – Dr. S. Shishupala, Professor, Department of Microbiology, Davangere university,Davangere. He spoke on different species of snakes found in Karnataka, myths and fact related to snakes, treatment,precaution and production of antivenom for an hour and it was very informative and useful. All the active participants during the webinar received a certificate through feedback link. The webinar ended by a proposing vote of thanks by Prof. Vikram Patil, HOD, Department of Zoology. The webinar was hosted by Prof.. Mayura Nibandhe.

One day National Level Webinar was organised by the department of History on 25 th August 2020. The resource person was Dr. Vijay Sathe, from Deccan College, PG
Research Center, Pune. He spoke on the topic “Animals as Data Source in Archaeology.” Students from different parts of India were linked for the webinar. The webinar was useful for the students and teachers of History department. The number of active participants were 60. The duration of the webinar was one hour. The technical arrangement was made in the computer lab of our college. It was supported by the faculty of Computer Science.

Department of Biotechnology and IQAC organized on Webinar on “Polymerise Chain reaction :A Paradigm for Diagnosis ” between 11:00am -1:00pm. Dr S. N. Patil, Principal B. K. College Belgaum , Ingaurated the session with welcome speech. It was followed by introduction of the resource person by Madhuri Hindalgekar and then the talk of the Resource person Dr Sridevi Puranik started on the topic Polymerase Chain Reaction :A Paradigm for Diagnosis.” It was a very informative talk which helped us in knowing how PCR works in Diagnosis of various disease like COVID 19 in a fast and effective manner. There were overwhelming number of registration of the participants out of which 101 and participants could join on Google meet. The participants recieved the participation e-certificate on their registered Email after submitting the e-feedback form. The MOC was done by Amruta Sane Organising secretary Department of Biotechnology.

Department of chemistry and IQAC of B K College organised webinar on “Chemistry in Corona virus research” on Tuesday 11th August 2020 at 11am. The webinar was inaugurated by Principal Dr S N Patil. Dr Sonali Salunkhe introduced the resource person.
The resource person Dr P M Gurubasvaraj , assistant professor Rani Channamma University, Belgaum gave a talk on “Chemistry incorona virus research.” He explained the structure of COVID-19 and how it will affect respiratory system and brain. He gave information about the structure of Auranofin which inhibits replication of SARS-Cov 2 in human cells. The webinar was concluded by vote of thanks by Prof N P Toralkar. MOC was done by Prof A G kalkhambkar.
